How to Keep the Thanksgiving Spirit Alive
Isn’t it funny how so many of us reserve thankfulness for only 1 month a year? Now that Thanksgiving has passed, we move on to the next holiday and the next set of goals, but leave behind the spirit of thanks and giving. Maybe it comes back around here and there, but how can we keep the thanksgiving spirit alive 365 days a year?
At CD One Price Cleaners, our mission is “To improve people's lives with a better way”. To us, this means providing our customers with a better way of doing things so that they reap the benefits. For some, these benefits are extra time, for others extra money. Both of these benefits can be broken down into a whole list of amazing things to be thankful for: extra time with your kids after they get home from school, extra time during the day to take some much needed time to yourself, extra money to keep the lights on next month, extra money to save up for that dream vacation.
We believe by this small act of year-round giving, lives can be changed for the better. Whether the benefits are big or small, they all lead to greater things, and there is always something to be thankful for each and every day. You just need to remember to look for it.
“Attitude of Gratitude” is a phrase that has become popular over the past few years, and it really encompasses what we try to do at CD One. This means having a grateful heart for what you have and what you can do and sharing your good fortune with others. We do this by reinforcing our mission every day and throughout the services we provide. We also work with local organizations to raise awareness and funds for those who need the help and support of their communities. Our attitude of gratitude is adopted into our everyday activities, and doesn’t happen just once a year, but is year-round.
So how can you adopt an attitude of gratitude? One of the best ways is to keep a gratitude journal. We know, it sounds like work, but as humans, we retain information and stick to habits much better when it is written down. A gratitude journal differs for everyone, but basically you want to keep daily updates in it of things you are thankful for. Every morning, write a list of 5-10 things you are grateful for. This can be anything you want, as large or small as you see fit. Some days you may list something that has already been written, and that’s ok. But try to think of fresh ideas as often as possible to see just how much there really is to be grateful for.
In addition to this list, before you go to bed at night, write in your journal 3 or so things that you learned that day. It is always important to reflect on what we have learned in order to recognize and measure our growth. This can also reveal things that we did not see before. Try to stick to writing in your journal every day for the entire year. We guarantee that soon after you start, you will begin to notice your focus is directed towards other areas in life and less hung up on selfish thoughts.
Most importantly, share this attitude with others. There is so much to stress about in life, you could focus on it every day, and yet we know that gets you nowhere. You actually have the amazing ability to change the world around you by seeing it and reacting to it differently. Once you start to focus on the things you are grateful for, you shift your energy to give and receive more positivity. As silly as it may sound, it really is effective. The spirit of Thanksgiving and the attitude of gratitude are all just ways in which we perceive life. And although it won’t rid the world of problems, having a glass-half-full attitude can help you improve your own life with a better way!
