Halloween Safety Tips
With Halloween coming up we want everyone to have a fun, safe time. There are many precautions you can take on this holiday and we are providing you with a few tips and tricks you can follow.
Make a plan
Before leaving the house, plan a route that you will follow. Go along paths that you already know to avoid getting lost.
If older children will be going out without an adult, create a route with them. Also agree on a time when they should be home.
Wear proper fitting costumes, masks, shoes, etc.
By wearing items that fit you properly you are lowering the chance of tripping or falling.
Carry a flashlight
When trick or treating it is a good idea to carry a flashlight with you. The flashlight allows you to see your surroundings in the dark as well as others.
Drive extra safely
With the large number of people, especially children, out on Halloween it is important to drive carefully. This includes driving slowly, eliminating distractions and having your lights on.
Eat only factory-wrapped goodies
Stick to treats that are factory-wrapped and avoid eating things homemade by strangers.
Stay clear of lanterns and candles as well as being sure to wear flame resistant costumes.
Stand out in the dark
Attach reflective or glow-in-the-dark tape to costumes or on bags so you are visible to drivers. You can also wear glow-in-the-dark necklaces and bracelets.
Make your own home safe
Put away anything on your sidewalk, driveway, or lawn that could cause kids to trip or fall. Keep pets away from trick or treaters as they may frighten small children. Turn on the lights inside your house and if possible, along your walkway so people can see.
